MARINO BALLENA

The Marino Ballena National Park is located in it coastal Pacific, Between Punta Uvita and Punta Piñuela, in the Cortes district, Osa County, province of Puntarenas. This area was created with the purpose of assuring the maintenance of hábitats critical for the reproduction and nesting of many marine species, as well as to preserve the productivity of the biological communities that inhabit the coastal zone, as well as various environments as sandy or stony beaches, cliffs, islands, rocky reefs, organic reefs and Punta Uvita wildlife. Reptiles, birds, mammals and fishes are some of the species this park portects. Lobsters, crabs, seagrass, sponges and camute, a giant snail, are also protected here.
One of the most important marine environments of this area, are the organic reefs, commonly denominated coral reefs, constituted by coral organisms that contribute to unite the elements of the structure.
