CARARA
Orotina, Puntarenas

This Biological Reserve is located on the South Area of Orotina, in the Rio Tarcoles' edges and consists of 4.700 hectares of dry and humid forest, proctecting a huge variety of animals and plants as anyother park or reserve in Costa Rica. This is why this reserve is considered an outstanding living laboratory, in which the structure and operation of tropical systems can be observed interacting. Fifteen archaeological sites have been identified. i.e: Pavas phase 300 BC to 300 AC. And Cartago phase 800 to 1500 AC. The most attractive activities here are to watch the red macaws in their natural environment, the many bird species and the crocodiles in the Tarcoles River.
