CORCOVADO

Corcovado is located in the zone of life pertaining to the tropical very humid forest of the Peaceful region South of Costa Rica, has an area of 54.538,9 hectares in the terrestrial part and 2.400 in the marine one, and is able to be told that no other wild area of the country protects the resources of plants and animal presents in this region. This wild area is considered an excellent living laboratory, where the structure, functionability and relationship of the tropical ecosystems can be studied. The vegetation of the park is mainly constituted by tropical very humid forest with the following hábitats: The Mountain forest, Cloudy forest, the forest of plain, marshy forest, the yolillal, herbaceous swamp, manglar, vegetation of cliffs and the vegetation of the coast. The park also protects diverse fauna species that are in danger of extinction as jaguars, dantas, pumas, giant ant bears, purple doves, scarlet macaws, toucans, monkeys, blue morphis butterflies, sloths, lizards and crocodiles, as well as 104 species of mammals, 367 of fowls, 117 of amphibians and reptilian and 40 sweet water fish species.
