This park is located at the foot of Turrialba Volcano in the city of the same name in the province of Cartago. This is the largest and most important archaeological discovery so far in the country. It was inhabited from 1000 BC to 1400 AC, although its peak development was between 300 and 700 AC, precisely when the stone structures visible even today were built. The Park extends across 218 hectares and protects all the archaeological sites such as causeways, hillocks, bridges, retaining walls, burials, petroglyphs, reservoirs and aqueducts. Access is best throught Turrialba. A guard at the park entrance also provides information to visitors.
