JUAN CASTRO BLANCO

This National Park is situated to the East of Ciudad Quesada and covers 14.258 hectares. It counts with hydric resourses of great importance for the North Zone, as much for the human consumption, as the generation of hydroelectric energy and industrial consumption. This park has important geomorphologics characteristics like boilers, active volcanic centers (Platanar Volcano), inactive volcanic centers (Cerro Viejo y Cerro Pelón). In addition, quaternary volcanic cones, alluvial cones and forms of alluvial sedimentation. The vegetation of the zone is very diverse and approximately 60% of the park is covered by primary forests with patches of forest in regeneration. The fauna is represented by birds such as quetzal, el pavón, la pava negra, la chachalaca; mammals such as wild goat, monkeys, tepescuinte and many spices of felines
