LAS BAULAS
Tamarindo, Guanacaste

The Las Baulas National Park is situated on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, approximately 100 kilometres from the border with Nicaragua. The limits of the park extend from 50 metres inland of the mid tide line, covering 380 hectares of land, to 5 kilometres out to sea, basically to protect the Leatherback Turtle ( Dermochelys Coriacea). Playa Grande, Ventanas and Langosta form the park and are under the control of MINAE and its local park administrators. Development within the park is not permitted, and entry of persons at night during the turtle nesting season is restricted. The Leatherback TurtleIt is the largest in the world, measuring up to 1.80 meters and weighing up to 500 kilograms. This is one of only three nesting beaches in the world for those turtles. The spectacular process takes place from october through march and is best seen at night.
