This National Wildlife Refuge is located in a 200 meters beach strip between Punta India and the mouth of Río Nosara including the town of Ostional. Its importance is the protection that the refuge offers to the wild fauna of the zone, that includes the dark-brown turtle, the Leatherback turtle and a great variety of marine birds. Vegetation is mainly constituted by trees and plants of sandy soil, such as palm trees. As far as its fauna, exite great variety of marine and terrestrial birds, marine turtles, some marine mammals, few reptiles and other animals.
