TORTUGUERO
Caribbean Coast, Limon

This National Park covers 18.946 hectares of land and 52.265 hectares of sea. It protects the whole eco-system in the area, and specially the most important Green Turtle nesting grounds in Costa Rica. The main hatching season runs from July through October. This is one of the rainiest areas of the country, resulting in lush flora and a huge diversity of fauna,  such as 60 species of amphibians and 309 species of birds. A natural system of navigable canals and spectacular lagoons is the perfect setting for unforgettable trips in this "Little Amazon". Aside from a visitor´s center, there are clearly identified trails and drinking water in the Park. There are daily commercial flights from San José. At Por Limón boats and boatmen can be contracted for a three-and-a-half hour trip up the canal. Also intersting is the Barra del Colorado navigable route.
