Covering 162 Km. (100 Mls), this modern highway,
with two lanes climbing the mountainous section, links the capital
city with the seaport of Limon. On the descent to the lowlands,
the highway softly winds through the Braulio
Carrillo National Park, unveiling first the magnificent verdancy
and the shady lushness of the tropical rain forest, and then the
symmetrical plains housing the magical enviroment of the banana
plantations, all tainted by the spectacular view of countless rivers
that flow towards the Caribbean Sea. Aside from being notorious
for all the contrasts, this road has major attractions for tourists,
such as National Park, several private biological reserves, and
the School
of Agriculture of the Humid tropics Region (EARTH), all of which,
together with the web of restaurants and hotels on both sides of
the highway, make this a priviliged tourist route.
Also you can reach this area using Vara Blanca-Sarapiqui-Guapiles
Route or San Jose-Turrialba Route. These other two are full of beauty,
color, sound and life from mother nature. The three routes will
give you the opportunity to take great shots, been in touch with
the most deepest costarican spirit and enjoy a relaxing trip to
Caribbean Coast.
