The majority of the ruins have yet to be excaved. Diggings have uncovered roadways and many individual items such as monoliths and petroglyphs. The site is rurrounded by an evergreen forest and it is located 51 miles to the East of San Jose on the slopes of Turrialba Volcano, at about 3.600 feet above sea level.
