Tortuguero Canals Information Page

The first day starts when you leave your hotel in San Jose early in the morning, get ready to capture the beauty of the diverse mountainous ranges around the Central Valley as you take off, enjoy the breathtaking landscapes of a rain forest as you fly over Braulio Carrillo National Park and admire a rea Caribbean jungle as you get ready to land in Tortuguero approximately 30 minutes after you took off. You will enjoy a delicious breakfast that prepares you to hike Tortuguero Hill or travel along the wel known Tortuguero Canals having the experience of your life in this unique paradise of magnificent flora and fauna, where you will take a close look to crocodiles, white-faced river turtles, howler and spider monkeys, jaguars, ocelots, sloths, neotropic river Otters, numerous species of fish, including Gaspar fish, which is said to be a "Living Fosil" and countless colorful birds that shelter in this jungle. One of the aspects that makes Tortuguero a special place is that it is one of the few nesting sites in the world to The Green Turtle (Chelonia Midas). After lunch we will visit the museum, the beach area and te small and picturesque town of Tortuguero. A delightful dinner will be served. The second day begins with an optional morning tour to the canals at dawn to take your best shots of a real Caribbean sunrise that prepares your spirit to enjoy the breakfast. If you do not take the tour, admire the nature around you and enjoy your breakfast. Then get ready to hike Tortuguero hill or travel along the well known Tortuguero Canals and have the experience of your life in this unique paradise of magnificent flora and fauna. Then, after enjoying a delicious lunch take your time to enjoy the trails or ride a boat through the canals or just relax. At night, a delightful dinner will be served. Optionaly, you would take a night tour that gives you the oportunity to admire the green turtles nesting (July through September). The third day you will be transfered to Tortuguero airstrip to fly back to San Jose. Tortuguero deffinately is a unique place for nature lovers.
