5 Days - 4 Nights

DAY 1: Depart from San Jose about 8:30
am taking the Pan-American Highway, passing through towns like Grecia,
Sarchi, Naranjo, and Palmares. At San Ramon you leave the highway to
follow a rural road crossing the Central Volcanic Mountain Range from
the Central Valley to the Northern Atlantic Area, through small towns
like Los Angeles, San Isidro, La Tigra and Chachagua up to La Fortuna
where you will check in at a local hotel. After lunch, you will hike
by the natural trails of the Tabacón Hot Springs having the opportunity
of observing birds, monkeys and special vegetation. Late in the afternoon
you will enjoy the hot springs and the night "look" of the
Arenal Volcano. You will have the chance to see the lava rolling downs
the side of the volcano crater. Dinner and overnight at the area.
DAY 2: After breakfast about 8:00 drive
from Fortuna to Los Chiles, border town with Nicaragua, to take the
boat ride of about 4 hours navigating the Rio Frio to the Caño
Negro Lagoon National Park. Once you arrive to Caño Negro you
will be able to spot its exuberant flora and its special fauna incluiding
monkeys, slots, turtles, reptiles, caimans, and many different kind
of birds. Lunch will be served at the river. Return to the hotel is
about 4:30 pm. Overnight at Arenal.
DAY 3: Breakfast and morning drive around
the Arenal Lake, through the towns of Nuevo Arenal, Tilaran, El Dos,
and Cabeceras, a drive of about 4 hours to the town of Monteverde. Check
in and lunch at your local hotel about 2:00 pm. Afternoon visit to the
Butterfly Farm, and Cheese Factory. Overnight at Monteverde.
DAY 4: Early breakfast and visit to the
Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, slides show and Hummingbird Gallery.
After lunch hike a different trail at the Monteverde Preserve or free
for optional activities. Dinner and overnight at the area.
DAY 5: Early breakfast, visit the Sky Walk.
After lunch return back to San Jose, arriving around 5:00 pm.
