Arenal Volcano Tour

The pick up at the hotels will be between 11:00 - 11:30 a.m. The tour will take the route through the towns of San Ramon, La Tigra and Chachagua meanwhile driving on a mountainous road, passing the Central Volcanic Range, experimenting changes in altitudes and vegetation, dropping to the Atlantic Plains and climbing part of the Guanacaste Volcanic Mountain Range. All the San Carlos plains are a rich agricultural area; cattle ranches, cocoa and yucca plantations are some of the most important industries of this area. Upon arriving at the town of La Fortuna, you will see the majestic and almost perfect cone of the Arenal Volcano. This volcano, dormant during hundreds of year, erupted violently the last time 1968, causing great damage to the area. Now there are eruptions of lava, gases and some ash daily. After a short lunch stop, you will continue the drive right to the bottom of the volcano; there you will take a natural trail by secondary and primary forest, in which you can see tropical birds, insects, abundant flora and monkeys. The bright red rim of the cone and the rivulets of lava that descend on the sides of the cone, as the sounds of the volcano will soon be part of your experience. Very often there are eruptions that provide spectaculars pyrotechnic displays, which are awesome and magnificent shows. Following the hike to the volcano, you will visit the Tabacón Resort, where you can enjoy the relaxing thermal waters and the dinner will be served at the Hot Springs. Return back to San Jose is about 11:00 pm.
